How I created the Aeronaut logo:
I used Microsoft Image Composer, not because it’s great (it’s not bad but can’t compare to other commercial products) but because I had access to a legal copy.
The first thing I had to do was match the background color of this page. I did this by right-clicking in the work area and selecting Composition setup… then clicking on the Color… button to bring up the Color Picker dialog. I set all RGB values to 245, which is #F5F5F5. This is whitesmoke and matches the CSS background value for this page.
Next I added the text using Harlow Solid Italic font, Bold style, 36 size, and R95 G158 B160 color (#5F9EA0–CadetBlue).
Then the cool stuff. I opened the Effects and applied the following effects in this order:
1. Grayscale Array with transparency set to 50
2. Emboss with default settings. The default light position it Top Right. I tried Top Left but it didn’t seem to make any difference
3. Edge with default settings.
That’s it! I saved it to disk as aerologo.jpg and FTPed it to my website. The effects didn’t render perfectly, but it’s good enough for a blog.
